Bear is a very special “Shepskie”, potentially an Australian Shepherd × Husky, and he is a dog with an incredible amount of potential. He appears to be dog friendly and has previously lived with another dog. Bear is highly intelligent, and it’s clear that someone has spent time working with him in the past. We suspect he may even have had some agility training, as he is incredibly switched-on, eager to learn and clearly enjoys having a job to do.
Bear can be wary of strangers initially, so he needs someone who will be patient and allow him to build trust at his own pace. Once he decides you’re one of his people, however, he bonds incredibly quickly. He becomes affectionate, loyal and devoted, and he forms a very special connection with those he trusts. When Bear finds himself unsure about a person or situation, he looks to his trusted person for reassurance. He takes confidence from someone he knows telling him that everything is okay, which is something his future family can use to help him become more confident in the world around him.
Bear has previously shown some guarding behaviour towards people he loves, including growling and positioning himself between them and another person. This is something he is learning to manage, and he responds well to calm, appropriate correction and guidance. His future home will need to understand this behaviour and continue working with him positively and consistently. Away from these challenges, Bear has some fantastic qualities.

He has huge potential to thrive with the right person Unfortunately, Bear is very anxious in kennels, and this environment really doesn’t allow his lovely personality to shine. We believe that in the right home, with consistency, structure and someone he can trust, Bear could absolutely flourish. Bear needs a home that will make the most of his potential. He isn’t a dog who will be content simply having a couple of walks a day and being left to his own devices. He needs both mental and physical stimulation — training, enrichment, activities and opportunities to use his incredibly intelligent brain.
His ideal person will be someone who enjoys working with their dog and wants to build a genuine partnership with them. Someone who will give Bear the time and patience to settle, continue his training and help him learn that he doesn’t need to take responsibility for protecting the people he loves.
