Mars is looking for a new home due to a change in his owner’s circumstances.
Mars can be an anxious boy at times and we feel that he will be best suited to a confident adult only family, so that he can relax and gain his confidence.
Out on walks, Mars is friendly with other dogs and enjoys a chase around with his regular buddies. His recall isn’t great if he spots another dog to play with but he can go off the lead in appropriate areas and with consistent reward based training and practice, his recall is bound to improve.
He does pull on the lead initially and then settles down once he’s in his stride, enjoying all the sniffs and peemails. Whilst Mars may want to interact with other dogs on walks, but he isn’t interested in going over to other humans, and he doesn’t chase wildlife or runners or bicycles. Loud noises, such as bangs, busy playgrounds, cafes etc can make Mars anxious and then he just wants to go home. Taking Mars to quiet places until he builds trust in you and confidence in himself, will do him wonders. In the car, Mars sits in the footwell and is a nervous traveller – he hasn’t had much travel training, so this is something that you could work on with him.
Mars could possibly share his new home with a confident dog, with careful introductions, personal space and a solid routine.
At home, Mars loves to play with his ball. He’s gentle mouthed and drops it when asked. All the other toys Mars has been given, have gone to toy heaven in no time, courtesy of his shredding abilities! Otherwise, Mars is non-destructive, he’s never chewed anything that doesn’t belong to him. Mars has always been allowed to sit on the furniture and he has been used to sleeping on his owner’s bed. Please consider this if you would prefer a dog that doesn’t jump onto furniture. Mars is also crate trained and he’ll go into his crate to eat a chew bone etc.
In is previous home, Mars was protective of his owner and liked to bark at all the people passing by the window.
Once Mars has settled into your home and routine, he can be left home alone for a few hours and uses that opportunity for a good snooze. Like many dogs, Mars is not a fan of the hoover and will run into another room to put some distance between him and the scary machine.
Mars knows some of the basic training skills, like ‘sit’, ‘wait’, ‘stop’, and his recall ‘Mars here’. He enjoys a tasty training treat, which will make future training easier, and he takes his treats really gently.
